Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) is proud to announce that Silver Regional Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) has been selected as the recipient of its second-quarter donation, funded through a portion of cafeteria sales. This contribution is part of GRMC’s new community outreach initiative, Gila Regional CARES—Community, Assistance, Resources, Engagement, and Support. The donation will help support SASS in continuing to provide critical services to individuals affected by trauma or sexual assault.

At a special joint meeting held on July 28, the City of Lordsburg Council and the Hidalgo County Commission confirmed that the City of Lordsburg will assume operation of the Ena Mitchell Senior Center, effective August 9, following the conclusion of the current contract with Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS). In preparation for this transition, the Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging is providing training and technical assistance to new service providers—including the City of Lordsburg, the Town of Silver City, and the Village of Santa Clara—that will take over the operation of senior centers throughout Hidalgo and Grant counties.

The Luna County Planning Department has announced that, effective immediately, the county’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department will assume full responsibility for the rural addressing process. This transition aims to enhance efficiency, improve service to residents, and align operations with Next Generation 911 (NG911) standards. Residents who need to request a new address, correct existing address information, or inquire about road names, address numbers, or related discrepancies are encouraged to contact the GIS Department directly.

The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) is inviting the public to provide input on the Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan, the state’s formal response to a landmark court ruling that determined New Mexico had not met its constitutional obligation to provide a uniform and sufficient education for all students. The action plan focuses on five core areas identified by the court, including equitable access to high-quality instruction and comprehensive academic, social, and behavioral support services. As part of the planning process and in collaboration with its strategic partners, PED will host a public meeting in Silver City on August 14. For more information, visit  website
