The Town of Silver City has released a draft Strategic Housing Plan and is seeking input from the community. This comprehensive plan is designed to address housing affordability challenges and support the development of new housing within the town. The plan is divided into two parts: Part 1 includes a concise community assessment featuring market data, a housing needs analysis, housing targets, and recommended strategies. Part 2 offers an in-depth exploration of community profile data, along with an appendix provided by Housing New Mexico. Community feedback is encouraged. Grant County in partnership with the NMSU Cooperative Extension Service, will host a free seminar focused on preparing for the 2025 wildfire season. The seminar will feature Dr. Doug Cram, the NMSU Forest and Fire Specialist, as the keynote speaker. Topics covered will include wildfire evacuation procedures, steps to protect homes, yards, and neighbors, as well as considerations for farms and ranches. The event will take place on Saturday, April 12th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Grant County Administration Center Commission Meeting Room.
Deming Public Schools is inviting community members to participate in the development of the district’s budget for fiscal year 2026 by providing input through a public survey. The survey is designed to gather feedback on spending priorities and educational needs and will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30th. Following the close of the survey, the results will be shared during a public meeting to ensure transparency and community engagement in the budgeting process. Students from Dugan-Tarango Middle School recently participated in the Film Prize Junior NM 2024-2025 event in Albuquerque, a film festival that supports over 70 middle and high schools across New Mexico in creating short films. Among the participants, 7th grader Lily De La Garza received notable recognition for her outstanding work, winning both a scholarship and the “Founder’s Circle Award.” This award acknowledged her film and efforts, and included a $250 reimbursement to support the production of her next film.
