Residents can learn about resources available to help with recent flood damage. The meeting to be held this evening starting at 6:00 P.M. at the Grant County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall in Cliff, may also be useful for individuals that experienced flood damage in other areas such as Mimbres River, Red Rock, Virden, etc. The Grant County Emergency Manager and other government agency representatives will be available to listen to the needs of the community and communicate the resources available to help with those needs. If you have had property loss or damage due to the flood, please attend the meeting.
The United States Department of Agriculture has awarded the Southwest Border Food Protection and Emergency Preparedness Center at New Mexico State University, a specialty crop block grant titled “Creating Listeria Control Specialists in New Mexico Packing Houses and Processing Plants.” This is an effort to enhance the competitiveness in specialty crops throughout the state by increasing the knowledge of threats to food from microbial hazards. According to a release, approximately 30 specialty crop personnel in New Mexico can enroll in an online program. For more information go to https://www.ifpti.org/
Members of the community can help fight hunger while supporting VFW Post 12212 at a Food Drive Event Friday September 9th through Sunday September 11th 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Old Santa Clara Armory, located at 11990 Highway 180 East. They will be accepting non-perishable items and pet food. A drop-off trailer will be stationed on site. For more information, call David Torrez at 575-956-5878. In addition, VFW Post 12212 has cancelled their Recruiting/Humana Health Care Event scheduled for Saturday, September 17th at the Old Santa Clara Armory. The event may be rescheduled for another time in the future.
