The PNM Resources Foundation has announced the 2022 Reduce Your Use Grant recipients that will provide cumulatively more than $200,000 non-profits throughout New Mexico. According to a news release, the funds will be used to complete projects that reduce energy use and lower electric bills. Some of the projects will include: solar panel installations; energy efficient lighting; updating of heating and cooling systems; energy savings appliances, and more. Out of the 42 New Mexico non-profits selected, the local recipients are the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store in Deming and El Refugio, Inc. in Silver City. The PNM Resources Foundation is a separate, nonprofit, tax exempt corporation governed by a board of trustees comprised of PNM Resources employees. No customer funds are part of the PNM Resources Foundation endowment.

City of Rocks State Park and Rockhound State Park in conjunction with the Astronomy Friends of The Parks announce the ’22 fall/winter and ’23 Spring astronomy program schedule. Weather permitting, about 20 minutes after sunset, a laser guided tour is given on the highlights of that evening sky, followed by visual observations with telescopes with assistance from members of the park friends, lasting approximately 2 hours. City of Rocks programs are given at the Orion group campsite. The Gene & Elizabeth Simon Observatory located at the campsite further compliments the setting. Silver City Mayor, Ken Ladner, will be hosting a Monday Meeting with the Mayor next Monday September 12th from 8:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Javalina Coffee House located at 117 Market Street. All are invited to stop by and share their thoughts, insights, and ideas with the Mayor.
