Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

Beginning on September 16th, parents will be able to visit the New Mexico Public Education Department Family Portal to access student’s assessments results. For the first time in 3 years the New Mexico Public Education Department has been able to provide student achievement data for school districts to use as a reflection of student learning. Through the portal, parents can view New Mexico’s statewide summative assessment for Mathematics, English and Language Arts, Science, and SAT School Day for Math and Language Arts. The “Every Students Succeeds Act” (ESSA) requires states to annually measure the achievement of not less than 95 percent of all students in each subgroup of students, who are enrolled in public schools. ESSA requires the assessment of all students, including students with disabilities and English learners in the following: reading and/or language arts and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and once in high school; and science once on grades 3 through 5, once in grades 6 through 9, and once in grades 10 through 12. More information can be obtained by visiting the New Mexico PED website.
