Through the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, smoke alarms will be made available to county residents, with the OEM coordinating installation. The Luna County Road Director is warning residents to use extra caution on local roads after recent heavy rainfall and flooding created multiple sinkholes and fissures across the county. Drivers are urged to stay alert for roadside hazards, drainage washouts, and highway warning signs. Officials emphasize that when motorists encounter standing or rushing water on roadways, the safest choice is to turn around and find an alternate route.
The New Mexico Family Action Movement has announced the launch of My Kid, My Choice, a statewide initiative dedicated to protecting parental rights and equipping families to guide their children’s education, healthcare, and moral development. Grounded in the principle “My Kid. My Responsibility. My Choice.”, the initiative provides practical tools such as opt-out forms, “know your rights” guides, and checklists designed to keep parents informed and actively engaged. The Grant, Luna, Hidalgo, and Catron County Clerks’ Offices are reminding voters of important deadlines ahead of the regular local election on Tuesday, November 4. Voter registration for online and mail applications closes on October 7, with forms received after that date processed following the election. Early voting at county clerks’ offices also begins on October 7, with expanded early voting starting October 18. The final day to request a mail-in absentee ballot at NM VOTE dot ORG is October 21. Same-day registration will be available in person at all early voting and Election Day sites. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact their local County Clerk’s Office.
