Ken Ladner, Mayor of the Town of Silver City is accepting applications for one volunteer position for District 1 Councilor. Applicants for this position must reside within District 1 of the Town of Silver City and the term is for the remainder of the four-year Term ending in March of 2024. Successful applications will be reviewed by the Mayor and Council Members in Town Hall on October 18th through 22nd. Applications are available at City Hall, 101 W. Broadway or on the Town’s website, www dot town of silver city dot org. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 P.M., on October 15th.
Tomorrow, September 18th marks the date of a Statewide Litter Cleanup Event in collaboration with the state’s “Toss No Mas” campaign. The Grant County trash pick-up event is hosted by the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Grant County Workforce Economic Development Alliance. Volunteers are requested to gather at the Terrazas Funeral Chapel parking lot located at 1 Fort Bayard Road by 8:00 A.M., and the event will go on until 12 Noon. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring gloves, water, and snacks. September 18th is celebrated as National Cleanup Day.
The Gila National Forest is hosting a free Dark Sky Photography Class hosted by amateur photographer and forest service volunteer, Deborah Calkins. Participants will not need a high-end camera to take part. Class size is limited to fifteen people, ages 12 and up and COVID-safe practices will be practiced. A limit of 15 persons will be permitted to sign up by September 23rd with the selection process will be made by September 27th.
