Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.
The New Mexico Department of Health reported the most recent cases of the COVID-19 that affect the local area as follows: Catron County with one new case; Grant County with 12 new cases; Hidalgo County with 4 news cases; and Luna County with 25 new cases. From Saturday September 11th through Monday the 13th, New Mexico health official reported 1,786 additional COVID-19 cases statewide. In addition, 14 COVID-19 related deaths were reported statewide that sadly included one Grant County resident.
The Republican Party of Grant County recognized three local law enforcement individuals to thank them for their outstanding service to the community. The honorees were comprised of two members of the Grant County Sheriff’s Department and on member of the Silver City Police Department. The honorees are as follows: Sheriff Frank Gomez, who has served as Sheriff since 2019; Deputy Robert Carrasco; and Silver City Police Department Captain, Melinda Hobbs. Each honored recipient was presented a certificate, a Challenge Coin, and a New Mexico Blue Line pin.
The Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest made a special donation of 331 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to the staff of Gila Regional Medical Center. The presentation was made by Annette Toney, Customer Engagement Specialist for Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, to Interim CEO, Scott Manis of Gila Regional. The donation was given as a thank you to the hospital staff for all they do to keep the community well and safe. The Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest challenges girls and volunteers to change their communities and the world through small acts of kindness and through big ideas that make lasting impact.
