Silver City Mayor Ken Ladner, during the Town Council meeting next Tuesday will proclaim September 17th through 23rd a Constitution Week in Silver City. This celebration of the Constitution was started by the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1955, DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into public law on August 2nd, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The USDA is offering a free refresher course webinar on how the Renewable Energy for America Program can help Ag producers and small businesses with funding to make energy efficient improvements and install renewable energy systems. USDA has programs that help convert older heating sources to cleaner technologies, produce advanced biofuels, install solar panels, build biorefineries, and much more. USDA Rural Development is at the forefront of renewable energy financing, with options including grants, guaranteed loans, and payments. The Western New Mexico University Office of Veteran Affairs in coordination with other local groups including the Grant County 9/11 Commission, are hosting a memorial on the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with an event on campus this tomorrow, September 11th, from 8:00 A.M. through Noon at Old James Stadium. Local dignitaries are scheduled to speak during the morning event including a presentation of colors and music provided by Mariachi Plata de WNMU and others. A bell will be rung at 8:46, 9:03, 9:37, and 9:59 A.M. to mark the moments when planes truck the World Trade Center’s North and South Towers, the Pentagon, and the a field in Stoneycreek Township, about 65 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
