The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the prestigious titles of Citizen of the year, Employee of the Year, Non-profit of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Business of the Year, and for the Linda K. Jones Humanitarian of the Year. These awards are normally given out at the annual Chamber Banquet, but due to the pandemic the event was put on hold until now. The banquet has been scheduled for December 1st at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center. Award nominations can be made at the Chamber of Commerce office or online at www.silvercity.org.The deadline for nominations is November 11th.
The New Mexico State Police have announced they will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, and registration/insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of November. According to a news release, this focus will help change society’s attitude about driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.
Grant County AARP Tax-Aide volunteers are now searching for a few more friendly people to join the group. The group prepares Federal and State income tax returns, for free, for seniors and low-income taxpayers. Volunteers do not need a history in accounting or tax preparation.
