Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, is a holiday of joyful celebration rather than mourning. The Day of the Dead parade is today in downtown Silver City. The Dia de la Muertos Parade is live this year and will begin at 5pm and will go down Bullard to Yankie to the museum and to the Dia de Los Muertos mural. The parade will host a variety of enormous puppets, flying skeletons, and many more wild creations from the community and there will be face painting.

Western New Mexico University celebrates Dia De Los Muertos, Day of the Dead Ofrenda. The WNMU celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed. The community is invited to craft an “Ofrenda”, an offering, to put on display at Miller Library beginning today going through Saturday, November 12th.

The Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments, which is based in Silver City is one of the recipients of the 2022 Aliceann Wohlbruck Impact Award. The National Association of Development Organizations honors members who consistently create new ways to advance regional economic development and enhance a better quality of life. The award was given in recognition for the work in facilitating the CO.STARTERS entrepreneur training program that began in 2020. Throughout the region, there have been 125 participants with 76 starting new business, even creating a “Makers” Co-Op. 

Silver City is having a Community Collaboration Meeting on Thursday, November 3rd at 9 am. Karen Beckenbach, the President of the Grant County Community Concert Association will provide information on “Make Music Day ” to be held on the Summer Solstice, June 2. The purpose is to spread the joy of live music whether through performances or listening to music. The presentation will be to see if there will be enough support from the community to hold this event in Silver City.
