Alumni of the Changemakers Fellowship recently launched the Spark Change Awards, a new initiative recognizing schools that demonstrate that improved student outcomes are possible for all learners. The awards highlight schools that are either the highest-performing or the fastest-improving in literacy and math for Yazzie Martinez subgroups, including economically disadvantaged students, English Learners, Native American students, and students with disabilities. This year’s honorees included Aldo Leopold Charter School, recognized for highest performance in language arts for students with disabilities, and Hurley Elementary, recognized for growth in language arts among economically disadvantaged students. The Spark Change Awards are designed not only to celebrate these bright spots but also to share effective practices with schools and districts across New Mexico.
