The New Mexico Department of Health has reported as of Thursday, October 21st, 1,132 new cases of COVID-19 were reported statewide along with seven additional deaths. Locally the new cases were reported as follows: Grant County with 34 news cases; Hidalgo County with 1 new case; Luna County with 24 new cases; and Catron County with one new case. You may be eligible for a booster shot if you received a second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine 6+ months ago and are an adult age 65+ years, In addition, eligible individuals  are residents aged 18 years and older in long-term care settings and people aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions. Others now eligible for the booster are people aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions and people aged 18–64 years at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting. The Gila National Forest is reminding all fuelwood cutters that tags and permits that were purchased during the 2021 calendar year will expire on December 31st, 2021. The 2022 firewood permits will be available for purchase on January 3rd, 2022 along with new firewood guides and tags. Forest officials urge that the following tips are practiced when going out to cut firewood:

  • Check weather conditions and road conditions.
  • Are you in a legally permitted firewood cutting area?
  • Pick up a free Motor Vehicle Use Maps from any of the six ranger stations.
  • Make sure to pack personal safety supplies – such as water, snacks, dry clothing, warm coats, etc. Let someone at home know where you are going, when you will be returning and what route you will be taking.

Silver City Mayor Ken Ladner is hosting a “Monday Meeting With The Mayor” at the Tranquil Buzz Coffee House located on the corner of Yankie and Arizona Streets in Historic Downtown Silver City on Monday, October 25th, between 8:00 A.M. and 11:00 P.M.
