The New Mexico Human Services Department  in collaboration with the Early Education and Care Department  are issuing P-EBT benefits for children under the age of six, who are a member of a household that received food assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance at any time since October 1st of 2020, and/or is enrolled in a licensed or registered child care facility covered in the federal program. According to a news release, “these children who were previously eligible had to be school aged and eligible for free and reduced lunch though the National School Lunch Program. Now, for the first time, many of New Mexico’s youngest children may be eligible for food benefits through the new P-EBT childcare program.” For additional questions about eligibility for P-EBT childcare assistance you can contact the P-EBT hotline at 1-833-415-0569.

Keep Luna County Beautiful is accepting letters of interest from community organizations for trash pick-up at Illegal dumping sites and heavy littering spots around Luna County.  Organizations must commit to participate at one illegal dump site and the Great American Cleanup or Toss No Mas clean up events in order to earn the $1,000, or participate in the Great American Cleanup or Toss No Mas events, as well as one regular community trash pick-up event to earn the $500. Letter of interest should include a brief description of the organization wishing to participate, what the funds will be used for, and who will benefit from the funds. Letters must be addressed to Mary Mackey, Luna County Community Development Liaison.

The Ability Center in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of Silver City will be distributing FREE electric Space Heaters to the disabled and elderly on Thursday, October 28th starting at 10:00 A.M. while supplies last at the Kiwanis building located at 900 Silver Heights Boulevard in Silver City.
