Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.
At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total to 37,302 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County rose to 168 total cases with 64 recovered; Luna County has risen to 631 total cases with 237 recovered; Hidalgo County remained at 111 total cases with 84 recovered; and Catron County remains at 9 total cases with 5 recovered. Statewide there are currently 183 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 20,001 cases totally recovered.
The PNM Resources Foundation has announced the recipients of its 2020 “Reduce Your Use” grants that provides nonprofits throughout New Mexico a total of $220,000 to help complete projects that reduce their energy use and lower their electric bills. According to a release, funded projects included efficient lighting, solar panel installations, updates of heating and cooling systems, window coverings, ceiling fans, energy saving appliances, and more. The local grant recipients are as follows:
- Infant Jesus Catholic Church Shrine in Hurley
- Santa Clara Catholic Church in Santa Clara
- Border Area Mental Health Services, Inc. in Silver City
- El Refugio, Inc. in Silver City
Each PNM “Reduce Your Use” grant awarded is the amount of $5,000.
The Annual Wreaths Across America program will be taking place this year by placing fresh wreaths on each grave at Fort Bayard National Cemetery on Saturday, November 19th. Last year over 2 million wreaths were placed at locations throughout the United States and abroad, including Arlington National Cemetery.
