At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total to 36,788 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County rose to 164 total cases with 59 recovered; Luna County has risen to 611 total cases with 237 recovered; Hidalgo County rose to 111 total cases with 84 recovered; and Catron County remains at 9 total cases with 5 recovered. Statewide there are currently 171 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 19,894 cases totally recovered.

As of yesterday, October 19th, the lightning caused Cow Canyon Fire located 18 miles south of Alpine, Arizona, near the New Mexico border, is covering 33,308 acres and is 15 percent of the perimeter contained. The area is in steep, rugged terrain with limited access, in a remote location within the Blue Range Primitive Area. The estimated containment date for this fire is Saturday, October 31st.

Tomorrow, October 20th, the Town of Silver City has scheduled a water outage from 9:00 A.M. to 1 P.M. for the connection of a new 12-inch water main. The areas affected by the outage are the Quail Ridge Subdivision and Silver Acres. For more information, contact the Town of Silver City Utilities Department at 575-534-6365.

Silver City Mainstreet has regrettably cancelled the Annual Christmas Lighted Parade that was to be held in Downtown Silver City on the evening of November 28th. Mainstreet came to the decision with respect to the Governor’s orders, maintaining that the health of the community is first and foremost.
