At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 50,251 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County increased 5 more cases to 220 total with 73 recovered; Luna County increased 35 more cases to 1,250 total with 292 recovered; Hidalgo County increased 2 cases to 129 total with 86 recovered; and Catron County remains 10 total cases with 6 recovered. Yesterday the NMDOH reported 14 additional COVID-19 related deaths and 1,022 new cases statewide.
In other COVID-19 related news, the state of New Mexico has partnered with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to expand COVID-19 efforts in southern New Mexico. The action is titled “Red to Green” in order to turn several southern counties from high COVID-19 spread to a much lower rate. The DOH has established 12 new testing sites that opened today with local sites in Deming and Hatch. The state of New Mexico and its testing partners have processed more than 1.1 million tests since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, visit cv.nmhealth.org.
The Gila National Forest Reserve Ranger District has implemented winter operations at the Dipping Vat Campground as of last Saturday, October 31st. Water systems will be drained and turned off to avoid pipes freezing and breaking during the colder winter months. Gila National Forest officials remind visitors that weather and conditions can change suddenly in the high country and to be aware of potential hazards in campgrounds and on forest roads.
