The New Mexico Department of Health reported updated COVID-19 case numbers from Saturday October 30th through Monday November 1st. Statewide there was an increase of 2,630 new cases and sadly 12 additional COVID-19 deaths. Locally, new COVID-19 cases during the same time-period are as follows: Grant County with 70 new cases; Hidalgo County with 3 new cases; Luna County with 35 new cases; and Catron County with 5 new cases.
A Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation and Trails Master Plan has been recently launched in Grant County with the intent to develop a roadmap for the future of outdoor recreation and trails in Grant County that will complement the area’s assets and economic development goals. According to a news release, Stakeholders and members of the public are invited to participate in an Open House on Wednesday, November 17. The event will be held from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Grant County Business and Conference Center (3031 US-180, Silver City, NM 88061). At this event, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions of the consultant team, and share their vision for outdoor recreation and trails in Grant County.
The Silver City Gospel Mission has partnered with the Murray Hotel in Downtown Silver City in holding a community food drive to benefit those in need during the Thanksgiving season. Between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. every day until November 24th, individuals can drop off canned or boxed non-perishable foods in the Murray Hotel lobby that will be delivered to the Gospel Mission. The goal of the project as stated by Murray Hotel Manager Phillip Cave, is to “help alleviate food insecurity in the community.” The Silver City Gospel Mission helps the homeless and those at risk in Silver City who are struggling to find even the most basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing and sometimes just a place to go.
