The Gila National Forest’s Wilderness Ranger District is set to burn about 300 slash piles of previously thinned piñon, juniper, and oak brush. These piles are located in the 3 Circles area off Hwy 35, just north of Camp Thunderbird, and the Hwy Bravo area south of Gatton’s Park. The burn operations for the 3 Circles and Hwy Bravo piles are scheduled to start today, September 9th, depending on weather conditions, fuel availability, and resources. While smoke from the burns is expected to be minimal, drivers should be cautious of reduced visibility, particularly during the night when smoke may settle near the ground, and may see visible smoke and firefighter activity from Hwy 35 and the Mimbres upper valley.
