The Silver City Council recently discussed a proposed increase in sanitation rates for local customers during its regular meeting. Officials cited a 20 percent rise in landfill tipping fees during the past fiscal year and a cost-of-living adjustment by Universal Waste, tied to inflation, as key factors driving the potential rate hike. The council also considered the installation of new Corre Caminos bus stops in outlying areas of Silver City to improve transportation access, particularly to community destinations such as the new recreation center and El Refugio.

Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) announced that, effective November 3, all services traditionally offered at the Tu Casa facility will be transitioned to the Silver City Community Health Center (CHC). While HMS will discontinue operations at the Tu Casa location, the organization will continue to provide the same range of services—including primary care, behavioral health, dental, and family support outpatient services—at its 12 other clinic locations, in addition to the newly consolidated CHC site.
