The Hurley Town Council reviewed infrastructure capital improvement priorities and budget concerns during a recent workshop, with top funding requests including the former Chino General Offices Building, water system upgrades, information technology improvements, police vehicles, a street sweeper, and the animal shelter. Town officials also discussed rising health insurance costs affecting employees and the possibility of a utility rate increase, noting rates have remained unchanged since 2019. The next regular meeting will take place on May 12 at the Hurley Community Center.

Gila Regional Medical Center has announced that Mary Gruszka has received the Nursing Excellence Award for Excellence in Practice – Maternity/Women’s Health, recognizing her dedication to patient-centered care and commitment to supporting women and families throughout the community. The hospital also recognized two additional staff members for their professional achievements, including Alan Cheverine, CNP, who was nominated in the Rural Practice category, and Christopher O’Dell, RN, who earned a nomination for Excellence in Practice – Critical Care. The honors reflect the high level of skill, compassion, and professionalism demonstrated by the medical center’s nursing staff. Congratulations to all three employees. 

State Senator Gabe Ramos, State Representative Luis Terrazas and local fire and emergency leaders are inviting the community to a Fire Mitigation and Preparedness Community Meeting on Wednesday, May 13, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center. The meeting will focus on critical fire mitigation strategies and community preparedness efforts aimed at helping residents better understand wildfire risks and improve emergency readiness throughout the region.
