The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission will host a series of public listening sessions to present key updates to the Draft Pilot Cycle 11 Policy for Arizona Water Settlements Act funding and to gather input from community members. The sessions will outline recent policy changes, explain how funding decisions may be made, and provide opportunities for public comment before the draft policy is finalized. Meetings are scheduled for February 17 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the Marshall Memorial Library in Deming and from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Lordsburg High School Cafeteria. An additional session will be held February 18 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center, followed by a final meeting on February 19 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Chuck Ellis Gym at Reserve High School.
The Aldo Leopold Charter School’s Youth Conservation Corps and community volunteers have been actively improving the trail system at the Silver City Senior Center–La Capilla Open Space, focusing on long-term accessibility and sustainability. Crews are repairing erosion, improving drainage, rebuilding trail alignments, trimming vegetation, and constructing stone features using both locally sourced materials and donated boulders. The multi-year project will not only enhance public recreation space but also provides valuable workforce training and civic engagement opportunities for local youth.
