The New Mexico Family Action Movement (NM FAM) announced that five New Mexico legislators have been selected to receive the organization’s Freedom Champion Award. This year’s recipients—Representatives Rebecca Dow, Jenifer Jones, and Rod Montoya, along with Senators David Gallegos and Jay Block—were honored with NM FAM’s highest recognition for public officials who demonstrate exceptional courage in service to New Mexico families. The award highlights leaders who have “gone above and beyond to defend faith, protect families, and stand for freedom,” not only through their votes but also through their leadership.

Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) recently announced that its laboratory team has been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), joining more than 8,000 accredited facilities worldwide that meet CAP’s rigorous standards for excellence in laboratory medicine. During the accreditation process, CAP inspectors conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the laboratory’s operations, including reviews of records, quality control procedures, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety practices, and overall management. This achievement underscores the laboratory’s strong commitment to quality, safety, and delivering the highest level of patient care.

The Silver City Town Council is scheduled to consider a resolution to name a new park along Corbin Street and Pinos Altos Creek as Monje-Martinez Park, honoring four boys who died in a 1967 arroyo collapse. The tragedy, once widely known in the community, has recently resurfaced through the efforts of local residents advocating for a memorial. The park dedication aims to preserve the boys’ memory and acknowledge the lasting impact their loss had on their families and neighborhood.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will host an open house on December 10 to present information on the US 180 Corridor Safety Scoping Project, covering the segment of US 180. During the event, NMDOT will share findings from its review of current roadway and intersection conditions, emphasizing identified hazards and proposed safety improvements. Community members and US 180 users from Silver City, Rosedale, Arenas Valley, Santa Clara, and Bayard are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and provide feedback. The meeting is scheduled to take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the WNMU Global Resource Center.
