Roadrunner Food Bank will host a Listening Session on August 20 and 21 to discuss important food-related issues impacting Lordsburg and Grant County. On August 20, the session will take place at the James H. Baxter Civic Center in Lordsburg, and on August 21, it will be held at the Grant County Convention Center. Registration and dinner for both sessions are scheduled from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m., followed by the Listening Session from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

During its regular meeting, the Hurley Town Council approved the renewal of its contract with Axon Enterprise for police tasers. The five-year agreement also includes the addition of dashboard and rear-facing cameras for police vehicles. Mayor Ed Stevens reported ongoing work on Anza Street and acknowledged public concerns regarding construction, noting that the council will review the completed project before granting final approval. Later this month, the council will hold a workshop and special meeting to consider proposed changes to the animal control ordinance, as requested by the New Mexico Borderland Animal Rescue Coalition. During the special meeting, the council will also award a contract for an upcoming chip seal project.

The Silver City Fire Department recently honored two firefighters on their recent achievements. Seth Neal has been promoted to Fire Lieutenant, and Eddie James Mendoza has been promoted to Fire Engineer. Both individuals are recognized for their commitment to enhancing the safety of Silver City, consistently demonstrating professionalism, dedication, and a positive attitude in their service to the community. Congratulations to both firemen.

The Deming City Council is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, August 19, at 5:30 p.m. at 1275 E. Pine Street. The agenda includes consideration of the ratification of the city’s fiscal year 2025 physical inventory, presentation of the city manager’s report, and a closed session to discuss matters related to the purchase, acquisition, or disposal of real property or water rights.
