Congresswoman Yvette Herrell,  is inviting high school and college students interested in attending one of the U.S. Service Academies to join a webinar tomorrow, May 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, ROTC programs, and New Mexico’s Congressional Delegation will be available to answer questions about the application and nomination process. The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One will begin a roadway reconstruction and bridge replacement project in Lordsburg. The work is planned for Interstate 10 in Lordsburg from milepost 21 to 25. Detours are currently under construction on the eastbound lanes of I-10 and hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic control will remain in place 24/7. The Silver City/Grant County Poet Laureate Selection Committee has announced the next Poet Laureate, “an honorary role awarded to a person who has established a presence in the world of poetry, demonstrated a commitment to the literary art form, and embraces the opportunity to engage in civil discourse.” Allison Waterman, has been bestowed the honorary position and will serve a two- year term that began on May 1st, with an option for a third year if mutually agreed. The Poet Laureate program is run by the Southwest Word Fiesta. Congratulations to Allison Waterman.
