The Department of Health reminds New Mexicans that COVID-19 treatments are available and can be accessed at many pharmacies, clinics, and health systems across the state. According to a news release, not everyone who tests positive for COVID-19 needs to take medication, but people who are at higher risk for severe illness are most likely to benefit from treatment, even if they have mild symptoms. It is recommended if you are at higher risk, get tested 3-5 days after being in contact with a person who has COVID-19 or if you develop symptoms, and then follow up by talking to a healthcare provider right away.
The Silver City Public Library is celebrating the start of their Summer Reading Program with a free Foam Party tomorrow, Tuesday, May 31st 1:00 P.M. in Penny Park. The summer reading program features prizes, crafts, and events like Indiana Bones and Explora. Today as we honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Military, it is important to recognize the history behind this national holiday. Originally known as “Decoration Day” in the years following the Civil War, Americans around the nation began holding springtime tributes to the many fallen soldiers by decorating their graves with flowers and reciting prayers. Memorial Day became a federal holiday in 1971. Today we celebrate in remembrance each year that last Monday in May.
