The Grant Soil and Water Conservation District will be having a special board meeting this Friday, May 5th. The Lordsburg Economic Advancement Project (LEAP) is having a “Clean Up” day. The event will take place Saturday, May 6th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Western Bank parking lot. Volunteers are encouraged to come out and help make the community a better place.
The Silver City Rotary Club will be sponsoring the “Wheels and Wags Car and Dog Wash”. This event will be taking donations to help support the Silver Schools Teacher of the year program. It will be held Saturday, May 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at First Savings Bank.
Deming High School’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) students recently took some time to visit pre-kindergarten students at Bell Elementary School. The FFA students were able to provide hands-on learning experience to students regarding the different stages of metamorphosis in caterpillars. The FFA students also had the pre-K students participate in video presentations, group activities and independent practice. Visiting the school is one of the many ways the FFA students help teach the community about agriculture.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham recently approved House Bill 2 for fiscal year 2024. This bill will give over $1 billion to the Higher Education Department to expand the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship program, workforce education and provide services to support degree-seeking students. The approval of this bill marks one of the largest investments in higher education in New Mexico history, with 12 percent of the state’s total operating budget dedicated to learning after high school.
