The Silver City Public Library will be sponsoring a concert this Wednesday, May 24th. The concert will feature the Grant County Band “Siempre”. It will take place at Gough Park at 6:00p.m. and is free and open to the public thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Library.   

A BIG Congratulations to the Silver City Broncos fifth grade boys who recently captured the championship in the Southwest Sports Association Basketball League. The Broncos went into the tournament seeded second but were still able to win the championship trophy by beating both the Las Cruces and Alamogordo teams.

The Luna County Citizen’s College will be having its monthly meeting on May 25th. The meeting will be to discuss Luna County Public Safety. It will take place at 5:30p.m. at the Luna County Commission Chambers. For more information call 575-546-0494. 

The Hidalgo County Juvenile Justice Continuum of Services program (JJCS) recently graduated eighty students from the Girls Circle and Boys Council programs. During the completion of the programs, students were visited by law enforcement and discussed bullying, sexting, and other topics that affect today’s youth. These programs not only gave students a safe environment to discuss these issues, but taught them smart decision making skills to use in the future. 

Congratulations to the Red Mountain Middle Schools Archery team in Deming for winning two tournament titles and a state championship under the National Archery Schools Program. The Archery program at the middle school began in September of 2022 and currently has seventeen students on the team. The program hopes to continue to grow with new students who are interested in learning about archery.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation is currently working on opening New Mexico Highway 152, the Geronimo Trail National Scenic Byway. The Highway has been closed due to cracks in the asphalt that can lead to further deterioration. There has been a maintenance crew on scene and they are working on repaving it this week to make the road safe for travelers.
