The Silver City Watershed Keepers are hosting a World Water Day Field Trip this Saturday, March 26th from 9:30 A.M. to 12:00 noon at the Murray Ryan Visitor Center in Silver City. Licensed geologist and hydrologist Dylan Duverge will lead participants on a hike down San Vicente Creek to learn about stream morphology. Attendees will learn and gain an understanding about the formation of the “The Big Ditch” and connections between ground and surface water. If time and conditions allow, participants can learn how to take stream measurements. World Water Day has been recognized every March since 1993. The Kiwanis Club of Silver City presented Kiwanis March 2022 Student of the Month honors during the Silver Consolidated Schools Board meeting this week. Past Kiwanis Club of Silver City President and Past Kiwanis Southwest District Governor, Bob Carson, presented three students with a Student of the Month certificate and a gift card for pursuing excellence in their studies and leadership. Awards were presented to the following: Jayden Pierpoint, of Silver High School; Juliana Cardinals, of Cliff High School; Cartin Basaka, of La Plata Middle School; and Katlyn Rogers, of La Plata Middle School. Congratulations to the Silver Schools Kiwanis Students of the Month.
Silver City Mayor, Ken Ladner is looking for qualified volunteers to serve on two committees serving the community. There is currently one vacancy each on the Municipal Museum Community Advisory Group and the Trails and Open Space Advisory Committee.
