Here’s a look at some local news brough to you by Silver City Radio.

Friends of the Library in Silver City is requesting donations of non-fiction books from people in the community. Money raised through their sales assist the providing needed funding for the Silver City Library. Non-fiction topics including Art, Birds, Buddhism, Cooking, Feng Shui, Herbs, all types of History, Natural Healing, and How-to books are welcome. Fiction books are also welcome, except no textbooks, encyclopedias, or National Geographics. DVD’s and CD’s are also welcome. Donated books can be left in the new collection bin located in the library or schedule a pickup service by emailing f o l silver city n m at g mail dot com.  The next Friends of the Library Book Sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th.

In Luna County, Sheriff Kelly Gannaway, swore in four new deputies to the Luna County Sheriff’s Office earlier this month. Congratulations to new Deputies; Raymond Lazos, Manuel Mendez, Juan Ochoa, and Chris Rodriguez. Deputy Lazos is currently certified, and had prior experience working in the Village of Hatch. Deputies Mendez, Ochoa, and Rodriguez although not yet certified will receive their certification at the academy in Santa Fe. They have had prior experience working with the Luna County Detention Center. In addition, each new hire will go through 11 weeks of field training.

The Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest are hosting a Fit and Fun event for girls in Grant and Luna County this Saturday, March 26th. Girls ages K through 12th grade can participate in Yoga, creating healthy meals, and much more. It’s also a great time for “Not-Yet” Girl Scouts to register at the event. In Silver City the event will be from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M. at the Girl Scout Little House at 302 West 11th Street, and in Deming from 2:00 to 3:30 P.M. at 721 Granite Street.  All participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes and bring a mask.
