Here’s a look at some local news:

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has announced additional restrictions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus in New Mexico. The order, issue by Secretary of Health Kathy Kunkel is effective tomorrow, March 24th at 8:00 A.M.  and closes all non-essential businesses that requires 100 percent of the state’s no-essential workforce to work from home. Businesses that deemed essential include health operations, shelters, food banks, childcare facilities, grocery stores, banks, media operations, hardware stores, mailing and shipping, gas stations, infrastructure, utilities, law enforcement and more. Meal distribution will continue for Silver Consolidated Schools students with the following pick up times for non-perishable, “grab and go” meal distribution for the period until April 3, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the following locations: G.W Stout Elementary Loading Dock on Silver Street; the Tyrone Community Center; Pino Altos Volunteer Fire Department; and the Cliff School. In addition, Cobre Consolidated Schools are offering a feeding plan for students for the week of March 23rd through 27th and March 30th through April 3rd. Free breakfast and lunch are available at the Bayard Post office, Viola Stone Park, the Hurley Post Office and the Mimbres Post Office. Meals are pick up only from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. and children must be present.

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, “The Families First Coronavirus Response Act” was passed into law which will expand access to emergency paid sick leave to workers. Eligibility qualifications include some of the following: local, state, and federal government employees; and employees that work at a company with fewer than 500 employees. On addition, the act provides sick leave for full and part time employees and employers will be fully reimbursed by the federal government within 3 months.
