The New Mexico Department of Health has opened the “Better Together Grant Program”, offering funding to established community-based organizations and tribal governments to provide accurate pandemic information and access to COVID-19 vaccines for all New Mexicans. According to a news release, the community-focused program, was created in partnership with the CDC with an emphasis on reaching defined demographics and specific counties with low COVID-19 vaccination rates. The NMDOH has approved funding of the program through June 2024, in an effort to provide a long lasting, sustainable impact. The application cycle will close at midnight on March 31st.

The anti-litter program Pick It Up – Toss No Mas will hold its next Community Trash Cleanup tomorrow, March 19th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the parking lot at Gough Park. Volunteers can obtain trash bags, gloves, trash pickers and snacks at 9:00 am. and spend the morning cleaning up litter at a location of their choice. In addition, all will return to Gough Park between 12 pm and 1pm to drop off trash and recyclables and record their cleanup results. The New Mexico Department of Transportation will collect the trash and haul it to the landfill. Recyclables will be collected by Silver City Recycles. There is a public meeting scheduled for community input regarding the Town of Silver City’s plan for the new Silver City Recreation Center, on Monday, March 21st. Planners are interested in what the community would like to see in the creation of the center so it will reflect the desires of residents. The meeting will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.  at the Grant County Veteran’s Memorial & Business Center. For more information, visit online at townofsilvercity.org.
