Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

At approximately 4:54 P.M. yesterday a shooting was reported on Silver Heights Boulevard in Silver City. According to a police news release, Officers from the Silver City Police Department arrived to the scene and observed a gold  Dodge Intrepid and Silver Chevy S -10  in the inside and outside eastbound lane of Silver Heights in front of JD’s Feed. There were three people injured from the gunshots. Two subjects were flown out from Gila Regional Medical to a trauma center. Sadly, a male who sustained a gunshot wound during the shooting, succumbed to his wounds. At the time of this report, there is one subject in investigative detention and was being questioned about the incident.

The Silver City Ranger District is reopening five campgrounds for the season starting tomorrow. The campgrounds are:

  • Iron Creek Campground, Upper Gallinas Campground, and Railroad Canyon Campground in the Black Range off NM State Highway 152
  • Cherry Creek Campground and McMillan Campground located off of NM Highway 15

In addition, the Little Walnut Picnic Area remains open from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. and reservations for Gomez Peak and Little Walnut East and West group picnic areas are available online at https://www.recreation.gov/

Local World Water Day celebrations kick off next Tuesday, March 22nd at 6:00 P.M. with an online presentation by licensed geologist and hydrologist. The presentation is titled “Using Online Tools to Understand Your Watershed” and is part of the Watershed Keepers’ Get to Know Your Watershed speaker series. The presentation will introduce attendees to selected online resources and tools available to critically examine any watershed of interest.
