The New Mexico Department of Transportation has begun a dual bridge replacement project on Nm Highway 152. Today, the crews closed the bridge near milepost 43. According to a release from the NMDOT, a shoo-fly style detour in addition to temporary traffic signals will be in place 24/7 for traffic control. Motorists are advised to watch for shoulder work and large trucks turning on the roadway. The bridges are located five (milepost 46) and seven (milepost 43) miles west of Hillsboro within Sierra County. The Gila National Forest, Glenwood Ranger District has announced only a portion of the Catwalk Recreation Area is temporarily closed post-fire. The restricted area begins after the first bridge that crosses Whitewater Creek, extends to the edge of the universal design trail providing access to the suspended metal catwalk, and ends at the junction of the CCC trail stairs and the suspended metal catwalk. The Forest Order regarding the Whitewater Trail 207.1 Closure is still in effect. Visitors can still access the Catwalk suspension bridge system and use the Whitewater Picnic Area. The Kiwanis Club of Silver City is hosting an Easter themed Family Photo Contest with the winner receiving a prized filled Easter basket from First Savings Bank in Silver City. Grant County residents are encouraged to be creative and take a family photo featuring an Easter theme and emailing it to kiwanisclubofsilvercity@gmail.com by the deadline of 5:00 P.M. of April 1st.
