The United States Forest Service at the time of this report has announced that the “Tadpole Fire” is approximately 10,276 acres at 40 % containment with 85 personnel working on the fire. According to an official release local resources continue to manage the fire. Yesterday, crews patrolled and monitored NM Hwy 15 and Forest Road 282 while engines performed mop-up operations along NM Hwy 15. Aerial ignitions were performed over the interior of the fire in Moore Canyon to minimize the intensity of the fire in timber stands. Opportunities to contain the fire backing down Wilson Creek were assessed today, as well as minimizing fire around privately held lands. Residents of Grant County can expect to see continued smoke production over the Tadpole fire with moderate impacts in low lying areas overnight, including Bayard, Santa Clara, and Hurley, with periods of light to moderate smoke during the day. Additional smoke from other regional fires is impacting the local area.
At the time of this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total 10,694 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases with 4,742 individuals reported as totally recovered. There have been 298,076 tests performed statewide and current hospitalizations have risen to 139. In addition, COVID-19 cases locally impacting the area include: Luna County has risen to 55 cases and 2,735 tests administered; Grant County remains at 17 total cases with 2,516 tests administered; Hidalgo County has risen to 39 total cases with 916 tests administered; and Catron County has reported no new changes.
The Western New Mexico University Board of Regents will be meeting virtually tomorrow during which the board will consider a capital project transmittal for the previously introduced energy performance project as well as the fiscal year 2020-21 budget adjustment request and the president’s performance evaluation.
