The Johnson Fire on the Wilderness Ranger District is 85,640 acres at 11% containment. The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument are closed and so are most of the campgrounds in the Lake Roberts area including Forks and Grapevine. As a reminder to visitors, the Celebration and Skates disbursed camping area is being utilized for fire camp operations and is closed to the public. The Bullard Fire on the Silver City Ranger District has been verified at the time of this report to be 109 acres. This fire is located on the western side of the Burro Mountains in Park Canyon and Kelly Chimney Canyon in Grant County. There will be a closure associated with this fire that will be available in the next 48 hours.
The Gila National Forest, Glenwood Ranger District has announced that the $3 day-use activity pass for the Catwalk Recreation Area/Whitewater Picnic Area is now available on-line through Recreation dot gov. This activity pass will offer ease of service so that visitors do not need to have cash available when they arrive at the recreation area. The pass can be purchased for the day of your visit or for a future date. In addition, there are signs posted with a QR code directly linking visitors to recreation.gov so payment can be made on-line upon arrival at the site.
The New Mexico Office of the State Auditor is urging residents to be aware of fraudsters exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic by identity theft related to fraudulent unemployment claims. Along with the New Mexico Department of Work Force Solutions a joint risk advisory has been formed providing guidance for individuals and employers on action they can take to prevent themselves from being a victim of identity theft.
