Here’s a look at some local news:
At the time of this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total 10,065 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases. There have been 275,897 tests performed statewide and current hospitalizations have risen to 161. In addition, sadly there has been 452 COVID-19 related deaths recorded statewide. Positive COVID-19 cases in Grant County remain at 16 with 2,231 tests administered, Luna County increasing to 32 cases and 1,897 tests administered, Catron County remaining at 2 with 122 tests administered, and Hidalgo County rising to 23 confirmed cases and 699 tests administered.
The Village of Santa Clara has received at $125,000 grant for the rehabilitation of the Fort Bayard Museum and the Fort Bayard Education Building. The grants were received from the Department of Interior, and the National Park Service funded through the Historic Preservation Fund. According to a release, grants totaling 12.6 million were awarded to 41 projects across the United States. The funding received for Fort Bayard will aid in projects to repair and replace gutters, paint and repair buildings and porches, and tend to foundation and electrical issues. In addition, the Village of Santa Clara will be working with members of the Youth Conservation Corps and NCCC Americorps, along with the Fort Bayard Historical Preservation Society and the Fort Bayard Restoration and Development Coalition.
Grant County has announced that re-opening of the Public Shooting Range will be tomorrow, Friday, June 19th. Range hours remain the same, Friday through Sunday from 9:00 A.M to 4:30 P.M., with the gate opening at 8:30 A.M. For everyone’s safety, COVID -19 safety practices will be in use. Some of the new safety practices are as follows:
- All persons are required to wear masks or some sort of face covering while on the range. Masks will not be provided by Grant County.
- Shooters must adhere to 6 feet social distancing on the range and if you are sick, please stay home.
- The County will not be lending out any type of shooting equipment.
- Range Master Kurt will monitor for crowds and will tell people to wait in their cars or come back at a later time if too many people show up.
