Hidalgo Medical Services awarded four scholarships to local students who will be attending college or university this fall semester. Alyzae J. Jacquez, is pursuing a degree in pediatric nursing and has already completed a Certified Nursing Assistant course at WNMU. Angelina Aguilar, will be attending the University of New Mexico this fall with the goal of becoming a Radiologic Technician. Ariani Michel Hernandez, a recent graduate of Animas Public Schools, will be attending WNMU the fall semester and plans on earning a bachelor’s degree in social work and later working as a councilor for children and adults. Leo Sanchez Jr. is a 2022 graduate of Lordsburg High School and plans on attending Dona Ana Community College to become a Dental Hygiene/Dental Hygienist this Fall. He also plans on practicing in the tri-county area serving his community. Congratulations to all the 2022 HMS scholarship recipients and wishing them success in pursuing their medical careers.

The Luna County Road Department began reopening the Solid Waste Collection Centers. At this time, limited capacity is available at the Cooke’s Peak and Sunshine Collection Centers and both locations will remain open until full. The Rockhound and Josefita locations will remain closed at this time. Luna county wanted to thank the public its continued patience and ask that everyone continue to report illegal dumping when observed. The City’s Transfer Station located at 5470 Highway 549 Southeast remains open and at full capacity, daily until 3:00 P.M.

The NMDOH is providing a COVID-19 update press conference tomorrow, July 14th at 1:00 P.M. Accredited press will join Acting Cabinet Secretary of the NMDOH, Dr. David R. Scrase, M.D. for a 45 minute event that include a short presentation followed by questions from members of the press. The event will be streamed live at 1:00 P.M. on the New Mexico Department of Health Facebook Page.
