The Silver City Rotary Club will be visited by their Rotary District 5520 Governor, John Drusedum, tomorrow during the regular weekly meeting. Drusedum, has been a member of Rotary since 1996 and is currently a member of the Roswell club. He has served in many leadership positions for Rotary District 5520, including Assistant Governor and Lieutenant Governor. He is a Vietnam era veteran of the US Navy and has been a successful entrepreneur in partnership with this wife Sharon. The meeting will be held in the Sunset Room at WNMU, Student Memorial Building, from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M.

The Grant County Community Foundation will be holding their first planning meeting of the year tomorrow, January 10th at 11:00 A.M. at The Commons in Silver City. Area non-profits are urged to participate in the “Give Grandly” event this year by emailing the Give Grandly Coalition at givegrandly coalition@gmail.com or grantcountycommunityfoundation@gmail.com. The mission and vision of the Grant County Community Foundation is to build a culture of philanthropy, in addition to advancing local non-profit organizations, and stewarding donor funds to ensure sustainability.

The Deming Police Department is introducing the Explorer program which is designed to provide hands-on, real world experience to young men and women interested in law enforcement. The curriculum is designed to complement classroom studies and enable explorers to develop leadership skills in any profession. Residents that would like to share ideas, comments or participate in this program are invited to attend a City of Deming Townhall meeting scheduled for tomorrow evening at 5:00 P.M. at 119 East Pine Street.

Today across the nation, people are recognizing National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, a day of encouragement created in 2015 to thank officers nationwide for all the daily sacrifices they make for our communities.
