The New Mexico Department of Veterans Services and the New Mexico National Guard will be honoring military veterans, Nation Guard/Reserve members and active service members at the State Capitol in Santa Fe during Military and Veterans Day on February 20th during the 2023 Legislature seesion. According to a news release, “The day will feature informational tables staffed by DVS, NMNG, the New Mexico VA Health Care System, VA’s Veterans Benefits Administration Albuquerque office, veteran’s groups, and community service organizations in the east and west wings of the Rotunda. Wrapping up the day will be a noon ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda honoring our current and former service members.” Veterans, active service members, their families, and the public are invited to attend and learn more about New Mexico’s military community.

Due to undesirable conditions, the hazardous fuel abatement occurring on the Silver City Ranger District neat the Little Walnut Day Use Area has been suspended. The community will be notified when the project will be restarted. In more Gila National Forest news, all Gila National Forest offices will be closed on Monday, January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King Day. Offices will re-open on Tuesday, January 17th for all business.

Gila Regional Medical Center has announced “Congratulations” to Jessica Antunez and John Torres on the birth of their new baby, June Torres. She is the first baby of 2023 delivered at Gila Regional on January 1st at 11:53 P.M.
