National Border Patrol Council President, Brandon Judd, released a statement concerning a border patrol agent being shot during a vehicle stop yesterday on Highway 146 near Lordsburg. The officer was reported to have been wearing body armor and was released after a medical examination. Although many details were not available at the time of this report, several suspects were later arrested. The news release further stated that the traffic stop occurred because the driver of the vehicle was allegedly picking up illegal immigrants crossing the border.
The Silver City Watershed Keepers, a volunteer environmental quality monitoring group coordinated by the Gila Resources Information Project, has announced a “Volunteer Appreciation Day” on Saturday, January 21st at the Silco Theater in Downtown Silver City. Everyone is welcome to attend the annual award ceremony, volunteer sign-ups, and be eligible for prizes. The Silver City Watershed Keepers is a citizens’ water resources stewardship program that engages community members in protection and restoration of the Silver City Watershed.
District 39 Representative Luis Terrazas will be holding a pre-legislative session town hall meeting from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 12 at Cross Point Church. The meeting will consist of a one-hour update and Q & A. Cross Point Church is located at 11600 Highway 180 East in Silver City. All Grant County residents are encouraged to attend. Opening day for the 2023 session in Santa Fe is January 17th.
