Looking for something to do this weekend? The community is invited to join the festivities at the 17th Annual Mimbres Valley Harvest Festival tomorrow, October 12th, taking place at San Lorenzo Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a variety of fresh, locally prepared foods, live music and browse an array of arts and crafts. There will also be activities for the whole family to enjoy. The festival is free and open to the public.  

As a fourth-year Business and Marketing student at Western New Mexico University, Valeria Adame is helping make a vibrant impact as a member of MEChA, a student organization dedicated to Chicano empowerment. Valeria is actively involved in planning events such as a Día de los Muertos celebration and aspires to introduce folklorico dance to the university, infusing the campus with cultural richness. In addition to her contributions to MEChA, Valeria works as a student employee in the Marketing department, where she is gaining invaluable experience that complements her academic journey.

As a reminder, The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the 2024 Community Awards Banquet, encouraging the community to recognize businesses, organizations, and individuals who have shown exceptional commitment and service. Categories for nominations this year include Citizen of the Year, Employee of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Business of the Year, and the Humanitarian Award. In Hidalgo County News: 

Retired 6th Judicial District Court Judge Manuel D.V. Saucedo was honored by his peers last Friday during a special courtroom dedication ceremony in Lordsburg. Serving as a general jurisdiction District Judge from 1985 to 1996 across Hidalgo, Grant, and Luna Counties, Mr. Saucedo also held the position of Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial District. Following his judicial career, he established a private law practice in Lordsburg and took on roles as guardian ad litem for neglected and abused children, as well as protected adults. In recognition of his contributions, the District Courtroom on the third floor of the Hidalgo County Courthouse has been named in his honor.
