Interested in learning golf? The Cobre High School Junior Golf Club will be hosting a free “Golf Clinic” tomorrow, May 11th. The clinic will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Cobre Golf Park, located at 1078 Royal Street in Bayard. All ages are welcome, including adults. Golf clubs will be available. 

The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One along with Highland Enterprise Inc. will begin a maintenance operation project on Monday, May 13th to place chip seal pavement on New Mexico 152 in Grant County. The chip seal process is a surface treatment that is placed on the existing pavement and is designed to seal out moisture and create a more durable roadway. Road work will begin at Emory Pass milepost 31.5 working west to Santa Clara. Work is expected to be completed by May 19th. 

The City of Lordsburg recently received the “Wastewater System of the Year” award for the third time in a row from The New Mexico Rural Water Association(NMRWA). The NMRWA is a non-profit organization, which gives out three awards to small, medium and large systems and has over 480 water and wastewater system members, representing over 1,297,000 New Mexicans. The City of Lordsburg is considered a medium system who was chosen based on the cleanliness of their wastewater system, for staying on top of the state required paperwork and for keeping the facility well maintained and safe. 

Southwest New Mexico Co. Starters is hosting a free summer program for young entrepreneurs in the Grant County area. The program is for high school students grades 9th through 12th who are interested in learning how to start their own business. The summer program will take place June 17th through the 21st at Silver High School. Prior registration is required. In New Mexico News: This year, The New Mexico Literacy Institute will be introducing their Summer Reading Program. This is an innovative, free program set to empower students, from incoming kindergartners to outgoing eighth graders. Students will receive focused reading instruction in small groups with trained literacy instructors to help them improve their reading and writing and to give them the confidence they need to be successful in all school subjects.
