The Western New Mexico University Kinesiology Department is offering a “Kinesiology Kids Bike Club” for area youth who are interested in learning more about bike riding. The bike club will start on March 18th and will run until April 22nd. Participants will meet every Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Regents Square on the WNMU campus. The Town of Bayard Council approved resolution 5-2024 during their regular meeting held on February 26th. The agreement is with the Department of Finance and Administration for the appropriation of $10,000 to help plan, design, construct and install a “safety surrender device”, also known as an “infant surrender box”. The infant surrender box will allow those who are not able to care for their child, a safe and anonymous way to leave an infant without being criminally charged.
Deming’s Interim Police Chief recently administered the oath of office to officers Isaiah Uresti and Cesar Moreno to officially welcome them to the Deming Police Department. Officer Uresti is currently a cadet at the Dona Ana Sheriff’s Office Police Academy, where he is training with other cadets. Officer Moreno is a Certified Law Enforcement Officer who is returning to the Deming Police Department to continue his career. Congratulations to both officers.
Congratulations to Deming Ruben S. Torres Elementary School student Anna Karen Granillo who won first place in the “Songbird” Art Contest that took place last week. Anna clinched the top spot in the 4th-6th grade age group in New Mexico, making this her second consecutive win in a statewide art contest. Her winning artwork showcased her artistic skills and captured the essence of the “Songbird” theme with a unique and captivating perspective.

The Savings for Success Award Program, a new college savings program administered by New Mexico Community Trust, is now accepting applications for their awards program. New Mexico students in grades K-8th grade are eligible to apply and can receive up to a $1,000 to help them save for college and help pay for higher education expenses. The goal of the Savings for Success Award Program is to prepare students for future success in higher education through financial literacy education and encouragement.
