Silver Consolidated Schools is celebrating national recognition after two students earned top honors at the prestigious National History Day competition. Allyson Terrazas represented New Mexico and captured second place in the nation in the Senior Individual Website category, while Ruth Perkins received the Outstanding Entry Award, a distinction recognizing exceptional scholarship and presentation among the country’s most talented young historians. Congratulations to both ladies on this awesome achievement.

Luna County’s Que Linda beautification program will host a free anti-litter summit on June 24 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Mimbres Special Events Center. The event will bring together community leaders, government officials, organizations and residents to discuss litter prevention, recycling, illegal dumping and other strategies to improve community beautification efforts throughout the county. Funded through the New Mexico Department of Transportation, the program supports education, cleanup initiatives and community engagement as part of a broader statewide effort to reduce litter and promote environmental stewardship. 

The Cobre School Board recenlty approved policy updates related to foreign exchange students, employee assistance and public records requests during its regular meeting. The changes clarify diploma eligibility for certain exchange students, update procedures for employee medical examinations and align district records request policies with New Mexico’s public records law. Board members also discussed a proposed regional pipeline project and potential opportunities for the district to benefit from community investments planned along the pipeline route.

The Gila, Lincoln and Cibola national forests are seeking volunteers to serve on the Southern New Mexico Resource Advisory Committee, which helps review and recommend federal funding for projects that improve public lands and support local communities. The committee will advise on proposals involving trail and road improvements, watershed restoration, weed control and other natural resource projects.
