Silver Consolidated Schools will distribute holiday meals to students on Monday, December 22, beginning at 8 a.m. Each participating student will receive a food box containing five breakfasts, five lunches, and a half-gallon of milk to provide nutritional support during the school break. All Silver Consolidated Schools students in grades Pre-K through 12 are eligible to receive a box. Distribution will take place at Stout Elementary School on Silver Street, with a total of 500 boxes available and provided on a first-come, first-served basis until all supplies have been distributed.

During the Grant County Commission meeting, commissioners approved a grant amendment for the county’s DWI program. The amendment provides an additional $32,000 in state funding to strengthen prevention efforts, enforcement support, and alternative sentencing tools. As part of the program, a “choose-your-path” virtual reality scenario will be developed to educate participants about underage alcohol offenses, with a specific focus on the fourth-degree felony of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The program will be implemented in classrooms using virtual reality headsets, with the three- to five-minute VR experience produced by students from Aldo Leopold Charter School.

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has announced the completion of a $340,000 negotiated sale of the vacant former Phillips Memorial U.S. Army Reserve Center in Silver City to the Town of Silver City. The Town plans to repurpose the property to support emergency management operations and to develop housing for individuals experiencing homelessness and for low-income residents, initiatives that are expected to directly benefit the local community. Due to its location, the property offers a significant opportunity to strengthen local emergency response capabilities while advancing long-term housing solutions.
