The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District has received a mineral Plan of Operation from Bronco Creek Exploration to prepare drill pads and conduct hard rock mineral exploration drilling near the Knight Peak area of the Burro Mountains in Grant County. The purpose of the exploration drilling project is for evaluating subsurface mineral resources. In a release issued by the Forest Service, “activities include maintenance of open roads, temporary repairs to closed roads or areas where overland access is proposed, preparation of exploration drill pads, drilling, reclamation of disturbed areas and rehabilitation of closed roads.” The project would take approximately four to six months to complete. In addition, the reclamation activities will include:
- Reshaping and reseeding of new disturbed areas
- Rehabilitation of temporary and closed roads
- Removal of all equipment, materials, and supplies
- Removal of sump materials
There are opportunities to provide feedback regarding this project and the Silver City Ranger District is requesting all scoping comments by March 5th. For more information go to the recent news section at fs.usda.gov/gila.
New Mexico Attorney General, Hector Balderas has issued an advisory warning about scams where individuals are calling residents and saying they are from the 2nd Judicial Court and the recipient must meet someone immediately to pay court fees in cash or risk going to jail. Residents are warned to not give out any of their personal information. If you have a court case pending, please contact that court to verify the information the information the person has given you. If you believe you have received a scam call, please contact the Court of the Office of the Attorney General’
