PNM has announced that a local upgrade project will begin next week just outside of Silver City. Starting on Monday, February 22nd, PNM will work to remove and replace 34 poles and wire on an overhead electric distribution line in a two-mile stretch along NM Highway 152, west of the intersection with NM Highway 35 in San Lorenzo. According to a release from PNM, the project will replace and relocate older wood poles with durable and long-lasting steel poles. The project will strengthen the line and provide better access to PNM crews for maintenance and repair work. Residents may experience some traffic interruptions as well as an increase of activity with PNM and contractor trucks in the area. In addition, The New Mexico Department of Transportation will be begin a large, dual bridge replacement project on NM Highway 152, starting on Monday February 22nd. Intermittent lane closure will begin for blasting that is scheduled to last daily through Tuesday, the 23rd. The project is required for the replacement of two existing bridges on NM 152 between Hillsboro and Kingston. The contractor’s hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The Deming Luna County Chamber of Commerce has awarded the Luna County Favorite Non-Profit to “Hearts for Autism Deming.” The Chamber created the award as a “Deming has a Heart” Valentine’s Give-a-way. The goal of the Hearts for Autism organization is to provide information, training, and a network of support services for Southern New Mexico. The Deming chapter was created to spread awareness, acceptance, and advocation for those in the local community with autism, as well as their families.
