The New Mexico Department of Health issued a COVID-19 update for Saturday December 4 through Monday December 6th consisting of 3,794 additional cases statewide with a decreased 7-day positivity rate of 13.9%, down from 14.1%. Locally, new COVID cases were reported as follows: Grant County with 28 new cases; Luna County with 42 new cases; and Hidalgo County and Catron reporting no additional cases.
The Western New Mexico Board of Regents will be holding a public meeting this Thursday whereby members will discuss and vote on a recommendation of emeritus designation, a change to the student handbook, a property acquisition, and both a fiscal year 2022 mid-year budget adjustment request and the first quarter financial certification. The meeting will start at 10:00 A.M. The WNMU Board of Regents will conduct the regular session in person, and the public is encouraged to join online over Zoom. Hosted by the Luna County Sheriff’s Office, more than 400 children in Deming and Luna County were treated to the annual holiday “Shop with a Cop” event at the Deming Walmart Super Center last Saturday morning. Each year, Deming Public Schools administrators work to identify students in need who will be candidates for the program. Each child receives a $50 gift voucher to shop for toys, clothes, shoes, and gifts for family members. The Shop with a Cop program was founded in the 1970’s to help foster positive relationships between youth and law enforcement officers across the country.
