The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce held their 2022 Community Awards Banquet last Thursday at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center. The Keynote speaker was Rob Black, President and CEO of the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce. Due to a pause of the event because of the pandemic, Community Awards were also given to recipients for the 2020 year. Congratulations to the following award recipients for 2020:
Citizen of the Year to Dr. Joseph Shepard, President of WNMU ; Volunteer of the Year to Lori Bonomo; Employee of the Year to Natalie Webb of Comfort Inn; Business of the Year Under 25 Employees to Gila Hike and Bike; Business of the Year Over 25 Employees to W & N Enterprises; and the Linda K. Jones Humanitarian Award to Christie Wolford.

Congratulations to the following award recipients for 2022: Citizen of the Year to Raul Turrieta; Volunteer of the Year to Robert Padilla; Employee of the Year to Jeff Fell, Assistant Fire Chief Silver City Fire Department; Business of the Year Under 25 Employees to Cassie Health Center; Business of the Year Over 25 Employees to Big O Tires; Non-Profit of the Year Award to the American Legion; and the Linda K. Jones Humanitarian Award to Terry Anderson.
A public meeting hosted by and at Western New Mexico University for the purpose of collecting public input on the updated university’s master plan is scheduled for tomorrow evening, December 6th at 5:00 P.M. Members of the community are welcome to attend, ask questions, and provide input for consideration. The meeting will be held at the WNMU Global Resource Center auditorium.
